Mission Statement
To position eThekwini municipality as a the sustainable energy manufacturing hub for the Southern Africa Region.

The Office Commits To:

  • Improving our energy efficiency
  • Reducing green house gas emissions
  • Reducing our dependency on finite fossil fuels
  • Invest in renewable energy sources / technologies
     

To Achieve Our Goals

  • Strategic partnership with supporting voluntary organizations, government, tertiary institutions, business and the public
  • Expand the knowledge base of individuals and business
  • Actively promote energy efficiency and reduction via the media to our energy users
  • Executes its mission through a team of recognized energy specialists 

Structure

The Energy Office structure is as follows:

Project Managment

The energy office is currently in the process of conceptualising and developing municipal led renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. These projects will go towards positioning the municipality as a leading centre for energy research and development.

Technical Support

Our Technical Department is in the process of implementing various projects which will examine different energy efficient technologies. This information will be used to provide cost effective and energy efficient   technologies which can be implemented for commercial and residential customers

Marketing Support

The purpose of the Marketing section is to create an awareness of the current  energy crisis that the country is experiencing  and to educate customers on the efficient use of energy and the impact of climate change on the environment.

Legal Support

Our roles and responsibilities include the following:

  1. Preparing strategic policy documents;
  2. Vetting commercial contracts and preparing international agreement and notices;
  3. Developing alternative carbon strategies and schemes, and
  4. Researching and advising on energy policies and carbon credits.
