Action Plans
 

The eThekwini Energy Strategy was adopted by council in January 2010 and the eThekwini Energy Office is mandated with the implementation of the Energy Strategy. The strategy outlines a number of action plans to guide the energy office into the future. Each action plan has a list of activities, responsible agents and timeframes. A summary of the action plans that the Energy Office will implement are as follows:

 

Theme A: Residential Sector Action Plans

  • Energy Efficiency Standards for New Residential Buildings
  • Green Domestic Power Tariffs
  • Promoting and Enabling Energy Efficiency in the Home
  • Affordable and Safe Energy Provision to Ultra-poor Households
  • Mandatory EE and RE Training and Certification for Service Providers
  • Household Appliance Energy
  • Efficiency Labelling
  • Enhanced use of Solar Water Heating in the Home

 

Theme B: Local Authority & Public Sector Action Plans

  • Plan with all Public Sector Authorities
  • Introduce EE Standards for New Public Buildings
  • Municipal Building Energy Audits and Savings Implementation
  • Capacity Building in EE
  • Promote Sustainable Point-of use Power Generation Projects
  • Promote Green Power Purchases
  • Undertake Carbon Financing Projects
  • Maximise Water Pumping Efficiency
  • Roll-out EE Street-lighting and Traffic-signals
  • Maximize use of SWH in Public Buildings
  • Maximize use of Energy Efficient Lighting in Public Buildings

  • Undertake Development Planning to Maximise Efficiency
  • Promotion of ESCOs and EEDSM
  • Promotion of Green Power
  • Introduction of Industrial EE Standards
  • Roll-out of an Industrial Energy Audit Programme
  • Introduction of Commercial Buildings Standards
  • Development of Energy Reporting Mechanisms
