About the KSEF

Purpose of the Forum

The primary role of the KZN Sustainable Energy Forum (KSEF) will be to act as a focal point where current and future SE research projects taking place in KZN may be introduced and discussed. The KSEF will seek to both guide and coordinate the effective implementation of these SE projects introduced at the various meetings.

Therefore, the activities of the KSEF will be as follows where each activity is a preliminary step to the activity that follows:

  1. It will be a platform where new and current SE projects are introduced to the relevant  stakeholders (those who attend the forums)
  2. It will serve as a forum through which these projects are put to question and where input may be made by other stakeholders and I&APs who have relevant expertise.
  3. It will bring to light institutional barriers to SE projects and will seek to conceptualise solutions to these barriers
  4. It will serve as a forum where an informed discussion will contribute to the  most appropriate and practical implementation of SE research projects

Membership

The membership for the KSEF is not limited to any specific group or people. The Forum will, however, stay relevant through the active participation of a number of significant role players. Importantly, the Forum is open to any group or member of the public as SE is a wide reaching sector and has implications for a wide spectrum of groups across KZN. There is, as a result, no formal ‘sign up’ or membership required to be part of the forum. The key role players and representatives are listed below:

  1. Representatives from eThekwini Municipal Energy Office.
  2. Representatives from research institutions and tertiary institutions engaging in SE research in KZN.
  3. Representatives from the business community involved in SE research and production in KZN
